Maps.
I heard about a map from a friend, a map of a residential area that had been discarded as research material because it didn't contain every local statistic within it.
Photographs with stories in text as part of the artword. I tried to imagine a complete map.
Conceptual photographic story with text. Within this map every street, every gust of wind, person, atom, passing thought and muttered profanity were part of it.
The map became a 1:1 representation of everything within, and observable from, the area's boundaries, across all time.
It became indistinguishable from the world that it was describing.
Teams of researchers were employed to create simplified versions of the map so that they might be of use to other researchers.
8 piece conceptual art story. Specialists were brought in to try, unsuccessfully, to separate the map from the place itself, as the map had dissolved into the area and was nowhere to be seen.

Maps is part of a project called “DOG” 2, which is a collection of illustrated texts/short stories. This piece is about what happens when there is no intermediary filter between the world at large and our perception of it. Or in this case, what happens when we try to fully represent the world.
